WSF18 - The 2018 edition
Informatics and Cybersecurity rhyme with bitcoin and the blockchain. While Informatics (Computer Science for old-timers!) blossomed by seizing data from their paper registries and re-implanting them on monitors and keyboards, Cybersecurity has been expanding the flowering meadows massively. Modern services can effectively reach everyone on Earth - individually - because they have been made secure. For example, every citizen with an electronic passport will have registered a valid e-mail address with the authorities, so that everyone can be contacted in no time or be offered personalised services. To someone's surprise, cybersecurity and privacy even thrive on modern cars, and share remarkable inspiration with fiction and artwork. The cloud offers countless market opportunities if only it is made secure, whatever that means. All very valuable assets are being touched upon, hence threats are compelling, and we need means to cleverly share threat information with the aim of strengthening response. So, pretty much as distributed ledgers rule the landscape of electronic currencies, Cybersecurity is a curse and a blessing for Informatics.
