WSF15 - The 2015 edition
Malware is there indeed, is pervasive and evil. What's the news, one may say. Perhaps just a number is the news: the percentage reflecting this year's malware increase often spans over THREE digits, depending on the target system. Just google it, or duckduckgo it. Thwarting malware is distressing, but one may resort to crypto to conceal private data, yet retaining the ability to meaningfully compute over that data. Yet, crypto has a dark side that's very fashionable lately, as it can effectively be used to conceive nasty ransomware. We need dedicated and clever tools to fight malware. At the same time we need to make widespread applications more intelligent in the sense of minimising the room for insecure user choices. I think it was back in 1996 when Paulson stated something like "we need a combination of approaches to achieve highest confidence". He was dissecting security protocols at the time, but the same statement obviously applies to malware today.
