Portland Square

Portland Square opened to its first students in Autumn 2002 costing £ 30 million; it accommodates the Peninsula Medical and Dental Schools and some of the Faculty of Science and Environment. It comprises three atriums, living the building a modern and bright feel.

Portland Square houses three modern lecture theatres with video conferencing facilities, numerous classrooms and a café. Peninsula Arts, the umbrella arts organisation for the whole university, also displays works in the CUBE3 gallery in the main atria, and the whole of Portland Square is often used for open days and preview days.
Furthermore, the area surrounding Portland Square has been resurfaced to ensure easy access for those with mobility needs, at a cost of around £ 1 million.

The biggest civilian WWII disaster, after which Portland Square is named, has been commemorated by a memorial statue on the reverse side of the building.
